The threat of heart attack and other related conditions continues to grow. This is reflected in the number of celebrities, and the who’s who from different walks of life losing their lives due to cardiac deaths. There is a long list of US presidents who have suffered cardiac events and heart conditions over the past century, and many have died due to it.As per American College of Cardiology, at least 26% of presidents have been impacted by heart disease.
Let’s have a look at US Presidents who died of heart attack and stroke:

1. Warren G. Harding

The 29th president of the US served from 1921 to 1923, died at the age of 57 during a western tour. Harding experienced chest pain, shortness of breath, and progressive weakness before his death. The cause of his death remained shrouded in mystery and it was said he suffered a stroke. But historians now believe he may have died of a heart attack

2. Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin D. Roosevelt, who served as 32nd president of the US from 1933 to 1945, had a deadly stroke at the age of 63, sending shockwaves across the world. Roosevelt was troubled by multiple health issues and his battle with polio is well-known. In 1944, he got diagnosed with severe hypertension and congestive heart failure. It is speculated that his cardiac conditions could be due to excessive stress during his four terms as a president. He died during his fourth term in April 1945 after he collapsed of a cerebral hemorrhage (stroke).

3. Dwight D. Eisenhower

Dwight D Eisenhower, the 34th US president, whose term lasted from 1953 to 1961 had a sudden heart attack that opened public dialogue nationally and internationally about the medical condition. At the time, it was not common to reveal health conditions of US presidents, to avoid panic and economic turbulence. In this case, however, details of the president were shared publicly, which also helped in spreading awareness among general public. Eisenhower left hospital after seven weeks and in February 1956, he was declared fit. In November that year, he was elected for his second term. He died of heart failure on March 28, 1969, at the age of 78.

4. Gerald R. Ford

Gerald R. Ford, who served as 38th US president from 1974-1977, had a range of heart conditions including congestive heart failure, aortic stenosis and coronary artery disease. In 2006, at the age of 93, he received a cardiac pacemaker. He recovered well, but passed away 4 months later.

5. William Howard Taft

William Howard Taft, the 27th president of the United States, served from 1909 to 1913, died of several complications from heart disease, high blood pressure, and inflammation of the bladder, at the age of 72.

6. Calvin Coolidge

Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States, served from 1923 to 1929. According to reports, he died alone in his bedroom, succumbing to a heart attack. He was said to be in a good health according to his family. his body was discovered by his wife who returned to home after shopping, went upstairs and made the tragic discovery.
