Woman discovers the iconic ‘Optical Illusion Dress’ that went viral in 2015 at yard sale – Times of India

The notorious optical illusion dress recently appeared in a yard sale and was discovered by woman who has again started a debate of sorts about its actual colour! The dress in question became a cultural phenomenon, splitting opinions across the globe as people fiercely disagreed over its colour. Some saw it as black and blue, while others insisted it was gold and white. The simple picture of the garment left many questioning their own perceptions, and the debate exploded across social media.

According to the Independent, nine years after it was first discovered, Amanda Rubinstein shared her exciting find on TikTok. She found the legendary dress while going through a yard sale, and she could not help but show her excitement. “I’m at a yard sale and they have a lot of great stuff, including the dress,” she exclaimed, adding, “I knew it was blue,” referring to the original debate.
Rubinstein is reported to have learned from the seller that the dress had been tucked away since 2015, the same year it became a viral sensation. While she couldn’t confirm if it was the exact dress from the iconic photo, she found out it was from the same collection.
In an interview with Newsweek, she said, “The dress was one of the first things I saw when I walked up to the yard sale. I immediately screamed, ‘Oh my goodness, you have THE DRESS!’ The owners and neighbors had a good laugh at my reaction.”.

“I wasn’t sure if it would fit, but I knew an opportunity to own one of the most iconic dresses of the internet age doesn’t come around often,” she added.
The TikTok video quickly went viral and the users were again plunged into the debate of the colour of the dress. “What a beautiful white and gold dress!” was followed by another user’s post saying, “This is the first time I’ve not seen it as white and gold.”.
The dress first gained attention when Cecilia Bleasdale posted a photo on a blog ahead of her daughter Grace’s wedding. The blueish tint in the image played a crucial role in distorting perceptions, leading to the fierce discussion about its true color. Despite confirmation that the dress is actually blue with black lace, millions still perceive it as white and gold, creating a global phenomenon that continues to baffle many.
