What was the turning point in your life?

The turning point for me was when I had a serious health scare and faced complications during my pregnancy and post-pregnancy.
I had trouble conceiving because of PCOS and subsequently experienced pregnancy complications. To avoid further issues, my doctor advised me to take bed rest during my second and third trimesters (about six months total), which caused me to gain a lot of weight. Post-pregnancy, I had a long recovery period and was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, with high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
That was a wake-up call for me. I realized that if I didn’t take control of my health, I was at risk for even more serious health problems in the future. This diagnosis motivated me to focus on my health.

What kept you motivated?

What kept me motivated was focusing on my long-term goals. I reminded myself that this wasn’t just about losing weight to look good. It was about preventing serious health issues, feeling healthier overall, and being the best version of myself for me and my family.
My daughter was also a huge source of motivation. I wanted to be healthy and present for her, to set a good example and show her the importance of taking care of oneself.
Seeing progress, both physically and mentally, kept me going. Every little improvement in my health fueled my passion to be fit and active.

Diet followed

After doing extensive research on nutrition, I decided to focus on making sustainable, long-term changes to my lifestyle and eating habits.
Although I knew I could lose weight much faster by following fad diets, I chose to do it the steady and sustainable way because past experience taught me that the faster I lost weight by depriving myself, the sooner I gained it all back.
So instead of crash dieting, I prioritized eating healthy, home-cooked Indian meals, which allowed me to control the quantity and quality of ingredients used. I continued to eat all my favorite Indian dishes, such as rice, roti, paneer, and chicken curry. However, I practiced portion control and maintained a calorie deficit by including more protein and fiber in all my meals.
I limited eating out in restaurants to only once a week or on special occasions. I cut out as much junk and processed food as possible. It wasn’t about restricting or depriving myself but about making mindful food choices that I could maintain long-term. Balance and moderation were key for me.

Workout routine

My workout routine was a mix of low-intensity and high-intensity exercises. I religiously worked out 3-4 times a week. I combined walking and jogging for cardio and incorporated weight training.
There were times when I missed workouts for a week or two due to vacations, injury, or illness, but I made sure not to let that affect my progress and got back on track as soon as possible.
I focused more on the process than the results, which helped me stay motivated and consistent. I never gave up, even when I didn’t see any weight loss for the first two months. I didn’t let the numbers on the weighing scale demotivate me!
As I stayed committed, I started seeing results. Consistency was the key for me.

Changes experienced after weight loss

After my weight loss journey, I noticed significant changes in both my physical and mental well-being. Physically, I felt stronger and more energetic. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels stabilized, and I was no longer pre-diabetic! I was able to step out of my comfort zone and push myself to take on new challenges, such as participating in and winning the Mrs. Grand International USA 2024 beauty pageant. Losing weight transformed every aspect of my life—my health, confidence, and mindset.
