A long time ago, there were real creatures bigger than anything we can imagine- – dinosaurs! Some were so huge they seemed like something out of a story. They had long necks to eat leaves from tall trees and were so heavy their footsteps shook the ground. These dinosaurs lived millions of years ago, roaming forests and open lands. Even now, their fossils remind us how amazing and powerful they were. Let’s go back in time and learn about five of the biggest dinosaurs that ever lived!
Argentinosaurus
Argentinosaurus was one of the largest dinosaurs, living between 94 to 97 million years ago in Argentina. Argentinosaurus could be almost 100 feet, that is close to 30 meters long and weighed about 70 tons. It used its long neck to eat high-level trees. Only some of its bones were found; it’s assumed to have been so large that few animals would attack it.
Patagotitan
Patagotitans lived around 101 million years ago in Argentina. It was one of the biggest land animals ever, measuring 122 feet, almost 37 meters in length, and weighed 70 tons. The fossils are some of the most complete of any giant dinosaur, which helps scientists figure out its size. Like all other huge plant-eaters, it probably spent its time eating trees and plants. Its size made it almost untouchable by predators.
Dreadnoughtus
Dreadnoughtus lived about 77 million years ago in Argentina. The creature was about 85 feet, almost 26 meters, in length and weighed about 65 tons. It literally means “fear nothing,” which is perfectly natural because it was gigantic in size. Its fossils were quite well-preserved, which was how the scientists really found out how big it really was. It utilized a very long neck to eat plants, probably being too large and slow to be a matter of concern for its predators.
Supersaurus
Supersaurus lived approximately 150 million years ago in North America. It could extend from about 105-110 feet to around 32-34 meters and was one of the long dinosaurs. It is lighter than others, measuring only around 35-40 tons, but its tall neck helped it reach a considerable amount of food kept inside trees. Although we never saw complete fossils, still it must have been a tranquil grass-eater that wasted much time searching for a morsel in some woods.
Sauroposeidon
Sauroposeidon existed during around 110 million years ago in what is currently the United States. This is one of the tallest dinosaurs, about 60 feet in height, or nearly 18 meters tall at the shoulder. It can reach 100 feet (30 meters) long and weigh 50-60 tons. Its long neck assisted in feeding from tall trees. Probably, it was one of the tallest herbivorous mammals that ate plants way up there above the ground.
