Former actress and now the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle kick-started her 2025 with a big news– she is back on social media platform Instagram and how! After a hiatus of 5 years, Meghan has made a come back on Instagram and within hours got over 6,77,000 followers on her social media account which is named just @Meghan. Her first post was a short black and white video, where she is seen in a white dress, tracing 2025 on the sand. And the news of her new account is confirmed by The Associated Press.
The news of Meghan rejoining Instagram comes in at a time when rumours of her split with her husband Prince Harry are rife. The reason: It is noted that the couple is making separate public appearances for quite some time; there’s also an alleged “emotional droughts” in their marriage which is fueled by rumours about their divorce. However, Harry and Meghan have put these rumours to rest by sharing their pictures together for this holiday season. Infact, for the first time, the couple also shared pictures of their children- son Archie and daughter Lilibet- in their official Christmas 2024 card.
Meghan’s past appearance on Instagram
This is not the first time that Meghan is joining Instagram. It is noted that before she got married into the UK royal family, she was known for role in the sitcom ‘Suites’ and had a significant presence on Instagram. After she dated and married Prince Harry, the couple shared the account titled @KensingtonRoyal with Harry’s elder brother Prince William and Kate, Princess of Wales.
As rift between the brothers and their respective spouses started to appear, Meghan and Harry started their independent social media account titled @SussexRoyal in 2019. However, it was deactivated in 2020 when Harry and Meghan decided to officially step back from their roles as senior members of the UK royal family.
In an interview with The Cut in 2022, Meghan had revealed that she will make a comeback on social media soon. “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back … on Instagram,” she had said. And now, roughly three years since then, Meghan has now rejoined the social media platform.
