Abhishek Bachchan shares his parenting strategy; opens up on dealing with generational gap with Aaradhya | – The Times of India

Abhishek Bachchan is one of those kids, who doesn’t believe that the way he was raised will work for his daughter as well. In an interview Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan has talked about his way of parenting his only child Aaradhya Bachchan and how addressing the generational gap plays a key role in his strategy rather than following the way of his parents.
Abhishek Bachchan’s parenting reflects his love and warmth for his daughter Aaradhya who is 13 years old now.

“I don’t know if parents are the best teachers”

“I don’t know if parents are the best teachers; I’m on the fence on that. I think our emotions come in the way. Our desire for our children to get it right and succeed and not hurt themselves comes in the way. Our emotions towards them may colour our judgment. I think a parent should lead and teach by example. Whatever I’ve learned and imbibed from my parents is by seeing the way they conduct themselves, not necessarily by what they told me I should be doing,” the actor told CNBC-TV18.

The younger generation is different

He stresses more on dealing with the younger generation which is dynamic and witnessing so many changes at the same time.
He believes the younger generations would show the way forward. Reflecting on their differences, he noted that they lack the strong sense of hierarchy that defined his own generation. In his time, parental authority was rarely questioned; if parents said something, it was accepted without debate. However, the younger generation is far more inquisitive. They seek reasons and explanations, refusing to act solely on the basis of parental instruction. Age, in their view, does not automatically grant wisdom or the right answers. With access to resources like Google, they no longer rely solely on their parents for answers to their questions, believes Bachchan.

Navya and Agastya helped him understand the generation better

Abhishek reveals seeing his niece and nephew Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda grew up before his eyes, helped him become a better parent to Aaradhya.
“The younger generations are not dependent on their parents. We went to our elders for their wisdom and experience. Today’s kids have it in the palm of their hands. So, they need a justification for doing something and I think that’s wonderful,” he told the media.
