BrahMos missile deal: The potential sale of BrahMos missiles, a joint India-Russia development, was the primary focus during the summit between PM Narendra Modi and Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday. India is considering extending a Line of Credit to Jakarta for the missile purchase.
According to an ET report, during the discussions, Subianto acknowledged the significance of developing local defence production capabilities. He commended India’s progress in this field and showed keen interest in enhancing bilateral cooperation.
India pledged to assist Indonesia’s ongoing defence modernisation initiatives through knowledge and expertise exchange. The joint statement following the summit highlighted both nations’ dedication to enhance defence industry collaboration through the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC).
BrahMos CEO Jaiteerth R Joshi met with Subianto in PM Modi’s presence. Subsequently, Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Adm Muhammad Ali led a delegation to the BrahMos facility for discussions with Joshi.
The team received detailed information about the supersonic weapon system. The discussions included exploring ways to strengthen defence and strategic partnerships. Subianto’s interest in acquiring BrahMos dates back to his tenure as defence minister.
The leaders jointly delivered an implicit yet clear message to Pakistan, stressing that all nations must cooperatively prevent terrorist groups from accessing safe havens and support networks, in line with international commitments.
Both heads of state firmly denounced terrorism in every form and reiterated their commitment to fight this threat through both bilateral and multilateral channels.
