Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli is much in the news lately, more so due to his poor health which has made his fans concerned about his well-being. And now, in a candid interview his wife Andrea Hewitt opened up about their strained marriage mainly due to Vinod Kambli’s alcohol addiction. So much so that after facing domestic abuse, Andrea even contemplated giving him a divorce. However, it was her love and care for Vinod that made her stay.
Speaking to journalist Suryanshi Pandey on his podcast, Vinod Kambli’s wife Andrea Hewitt shared that Vinod Kambli’s alcoholism led him to undergo rehabilitation atleast 14 times. They faced a lot of challenges in their marriage due to which, at one point, she even filed for a divorce but later chose to stay with him.
For the unversed, Andrea Hewitt is a former model and she is Vinod Kambli’s second wife. The couple met around the year 2000 and got married in 2006 in a private ceremony in a civil court. Prior to Andrea, Vinod Kamble was married to Noella Lewis– however, their marriage did not stand the test of time.
After 17 years of marriage, Vinod Kambli and Andrea Hewitt’s marriage hit a rough patch in February 2023 when Vinod Kamble allegedly tossed a cooking pan handle at her in a drunk state; Andrea had suffered a head injury. Retaliating to it, Andrea had filed a police complaint against Vinod Kambli and accussed him of domestic abuse.
Reflecting on what made her stay with Vinod in difficult times, Andrea said, “I once thought about it (divorce). But I realised that he would be helpless if I leave him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. It makes me feel worried. I would not even leave a friend, and he is obviously more than that.”
She added, “I remember there were moments when I would just walk away. But then I would be worried: Has he eaten or not? Is he on the bed properly? Is he okay? Then I had to check on him, and I would understand that he needed me.”
Talking about how their son Jesus Christiano Kambli understood the situation well back then, Andrea further said, “My son Cristiano understood everything, he didn’t bother me at all, he understood all the emotions on my face.” She also said that it was her son who helped her face the challenging times, especially when Vinod Kambli’s health deteriorated.
Vinod Kambli and Andrea Hewitt have two children together– a son named Jesus Christiano Kambli, and a daughter named Johanna.
