MP man wants half of father’s body in bizarre last rites dispute, police step in – The Times of India

In a truly strange turn of events, a man in Madhya Pradesh got into an unusual argument with his brother over their father’s funeral in Lidhorataal village, Tikamgarh district. The older brother, who was drunk, demanded to have half of his father’s body, making the situation even more absurd.
It all began when 84-year-old Dhyani Singh Ghosh passed away after a prolonged illness. His younger son, Deshraj, had been taking care of him during his final days and was prepared to carry out the last rites. However, when Kishan arrived, the situation quickly spiralled into an argument.

Sibling disagreements over the final rites of a deceased parent are not uncommon. It’s a well-known source of tension in many families—who gets to perform the rituals, light the pyre, or even lead the prayers. However, Kishan’s demand was out of the ordinary. A little tipsy, he insisted that their father’s body be split in two so each brother could carry out separate cremations.
Naturally, this strange demand caught the attention of the villagers, who quickly called the police. When the Jatara officers arrived, they found the brothers arguing intensely. Kishan, still drunk, wasn’t backing down. It took several hours of negotiations and persuasion by the police, but eventually, they managed to convince him to leave the scene. This allowed Deshraj to proceed with the cremation, fulfilling his father’s final wishes.
While this may seem like an extreme case of family drama, such disputes over last rites and inheritance aren’t all that rare. These kinds of disagreements can lead to some truly bizarre and even tragic situations, although it’s not every day that someone demands half of a loved one’s body.
As for Kishan, his claim was apparently rooted in a mix of grief, frustration, and alcohol—though it’s unclear why he thought splitting the body in two would solve anything. The younger son, Deshraj, ultimately honoured his father’s wishes and performed the cremation.

Now, this wasn’t the only shocking event in Madhya Pradesh recently. Just hours later, another disturbing story came from Ujjain, where a BJP MLA’s brother shot his own son over a money dispute. Family tensions seem to be reaching new extremes in the state. In Lidhorataal, however, the day ended with a calmer note.
This incident serves as a reminder that, despite unusual or difficult circumstances, the priority should always be for families to resolve their differences when it matters most.
