20 year old Angkrish Raghuvanshi is winning hearts in the current season of the Indian Premiere League (IPL). The right-hand top-order batter is playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and idolises Shubman Gill.
“Cricket is what I go to sleep wanting to do and what I wake up wanting to do”
Angkrish is going viral for the passion fuelled statement he delivered recently. “I’m in love with the game. So I will do whatever it takes to improve, to work hard and try to win games for my team,” the young cricketer told ESPNcricinfo. “Because that’s what I love doing. That’s what I go to sleep wanting to do. That’s what I wake up wanting to do.”
“It’s about how many games I want to win for my team during the season in every tournament that I play, and hopefully I can win the tournament for my team. Those are my goals at the start of the season. And I feel that when I think [that way], it brings out the best in my performance as well,” he told the media. For the unversed Angkrish was India’s highest run-scorer in the Under-19 World Cup.
While such a strong passion is expected from a cricketer, do you know his family has a strong role to play in this too!
Angkrish comes from a family of sportspersons
Coming from a family of athletes it was instilled in him to worship sports. As per reports, his father Avneesh Raghuvanshi is a former tennis player and his mother Malika Raghuvanshi represented the country in basketball.
“When I was a kid, both my mom and dad made me play different sports. My dad made me play tennis with him. My mom made me play basketball with her. And obviously cricket, because I’m from an Indian family,” he told the media. “So I think it has been inculcated into me, the habit of playing sports.”
Angkrish was born in Delhi in 2004
Angkrish Raghuvanshi was born in 2004 in New Delhi and later moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in cricket. He made his debut in 2024 with Kolkata Knight Riders when he scored 54 runs from 27 balls in his first match against Delhi Capitals.
