Not all heroes wear capes or masks—some quietly save lives with their quick instincts and compassion. A recent incident aboard an IndiGo flight showcased such heroism, that she was hailed ‘superwoman’ by people. Sanchit Mahajan, co-founder of Spotlight Scouts & Orion Hostels, recounted the incident in a heartfelt LinkedIn post. He detailed how the crew member’s prompt and skilled intervention saved the life of an elderly passenger.
In his LinkedIn post, Sanchit described that in mid-flight an elderly man, around the age of 70, started losing his unconsciousness. The situation became even more tense as there were no medical professionals on the flight. It is in this situation that, “One particular crew member – a true SUPERWOMAN – stood out. I wish I knew her name, but her actions spoke louder than any nameplate ever could.”
As per Sanchit’s report of the incident, the unnamed woman and the entire cabin crew, with admirable patience and courage, started attending to the man. The woman, in particular, took the lead and balanced the man’s neck and appropriated his oxygen mask. For 30-40 minutes she continued trying to bring back the man from his unconscious state. Her determination ultimately bore fruits and the man started to recover.
However, more than anything Sanchit was moved by a single tear in the eye of the cre attendant after she ensured that the man was ok. He wrote, “Her dedication bore fruit as the passenger began to recover. But what struck me most was her reaction afterward. I noticed her in tears – likely overwhelmed by the weight of the situation and the emotions of seeing the man regain his consciousness.”
On one hand, Sanchit was overwhelmed by the woman’s dedication, he noticed that the people on board did not appreciate the woman and the other crew members enough. Feeling saddened, he ensured that he congratulated the crew for their ‘Herculean efforts’.
He further added, “It was heartfelt, seeing her give her absolute best to a situation that many of us wouldn’t have been prepared to handle.” He ended his post by reminding people to never forget to appreciate people who work tirelessly to keep us safe. He said, “Let this be a reminder to all of us: never hesitate to acknowledge and appreciate those who go above and beyond, especially in challenging circumstances.”
