Tough Class 10 question paper upsets parents; IISc Professor highlights concerns | – Times of India

There are different ways to describe the current curriculum followed by schools. While some will say they are advanced, some others would say they are futuristic. But when the school curriculum gets tougher for students it is a big concern.
When school curriculums become excessively tough, it can lead to heightened stress, anxiety, and burnout among students. This pressure often hampers holistic development, affecting mental health and social interactions. The disparity in coping mechanisms also exacerbates inequalities, making education a burden rather than an opportunity. A balanced curriculum is essential to ensure learning remains accessible and empowering for all.
An example of this situation was recently shared by Deepak Subramani, Asst. Prof. Computational and Data Sciences, IISc Bangalore.
Deepak writes on X: Our relative called today to get help for their 10th class child’s AI exam. I asked for the question paper and was shocked. How does one write a “python program for a simple Chatbot” for 4 points? Is the school serious????
Many X users have come forward to corroborate.
“This is what happens in classrooms when CBSE introduces a subject called AI for Grade 10 exams. Their learning outcomes on paper are kinda okayish though but how it is taught and assessed is a different story,” writes one user.
“This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while! The teacher could have used chatgpt to make a more relevant and sensible exam,” writes another user.
“Irony is the fact that none of these questions really help in real life building of tech, broadly speaking,” writes a third user.
“This looks extremely concerning way of teaching. These are applications. Schools is meant for fundamental principles. Even if its a practical class it should be practical to implement fundamental theories and not this. Please dont mind the kid’s marks in this subject,” another user expresses concern.
“IT can be written a few lines but that’s not what kids should learn. Kids should learn to explore math and science computationally, plot data from physics experiments or plot linear equations they come across in high school, and write code to simulate the inverse sq law,” writes one X user.
The question paper is said to be from Kendriya Vidyalaya school, which is affiliated to the CBSE.
