Humans usually underestimate how much work can be done in a single day or year; we usually limit ourselves to being extraordinary and put effort into ourselves and our work. When we start working on a project, rather than being fully dedicated to working on it, we limit our workload by procrastinating or overthinking. If we start working and stop worrying about the results, we will accomplish more goals and tasks every day. We let our laziness kick in, and rather than taking action, we only talk about it.
We have often heard the quote Eat the Frog. The quote states if it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning, and if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first. The frog here is a metaphor, which represents a task that can be challenging. In simple words, the quote means that you should prioritize your task and finish it first thing in the morning rather than procrastinating it.
Here’s how the technique works:
Identify your “frog.”
It is very important to identify your frog. Rather than piling a thousand tasks on your list, you should find what is the most important task you have to accomplish, what is your major goal. The first step is to identify your main task.
Prioritize the frog
Once you have an idea, it is important to work on it. You need to prioritize your task, make a schedule, and make sure that you are accomplishing it first thing in the morning.
Start your day by eating your frog
Once you have identified your frog and prioritized it, it’s time to work on it. Rather than piling a thousand things first thing in the morning, you should start your day by working on the task. For example, if you have your exams coming, then the first thing you should do is study for your exams in the morning.
Break it down
Finishing a task may be overwhelming; break it down into parts and work on the parts. For example, it’s difficult to cover your entire syllabus in one hour. Rather than being pressured, break down your syllabus into small portions and study them.
Focus
When you have started working on your fridge, it is important to stay focused on it and not get distracted easily. You need to reduce your distractions and be consistent on your task. Remember, consistency is the key to success. Once you are focused and consistent, you have already erased half of the problems.
