PV Sindhu’s Badminton-inspired couture lehenga steals the show – Times of India

Indian badminton superstar PV Sindhu tied the knot with Venkat Datta in an intimate ceremony last month in Udaipur, attended by close friends and family. The wedding was a celebration of love and tradition, and the couple’s custom ensembles stole the show, blending personal significance with breathtaking artistry.

Sindhu shared two striking looks from her wedding festivities. Her first ensemble was an exquisite sea foam green lehenga set by the House Of Masaba, aptly named the ‘Ambar Bagh’ lehenga. This custom creation, designed to narrate the couple’s story, featured intricate details like badminton racquets, shuttlecocks, gold medals (symbolising Sindhu’s achievements at the Tokyo and Rio Olympics), and paper airplane motifs. The lehenga’s artistry extended to the skirt, adorned with tree and ‘sehra’ motifs in ‘dhagai’ and ‘dori’ embroidery, complemented by tissue detailing along the hem. Sindhu paired it with a sheer kurta blouse layered over the ‘Son Phal’ bustier and a tissue dupatta woven with ‘gota’ and foil accents, embellished with personalised charms.
For accessories, Sindhu opted for a gold ‘matha patti’, a custom ‘paranda’, a knuckle ring featuring medal charms, dangling pearl earrings, layered necklaces, and a traditional ‘haath phool’. She styled her hair in a sleek braid and kept her makeup minimal to let the intricate detailing shine.

In a nod to tradition, the groom, Venkat Datta, wore a custom ‘Ambar Bagh’ kurta and ‘veshti’ set, seamlessly complementing the bride’s attire. His outfit reflected their shared heritage while maintaining a refined, classic aesthetic.
Sindhu’s second look was equally captivating—a contemporary embroidered gold jacket paired with red silk pants and a blouse, showcasing her modern style.
The wedding wardrobe was more than just fashion; it was a deeply personal tribute to Sindhu’s journey, her love for Venkat, and their shared cultural heritage. By intertwining traditional and modern elements, the couple’s ensembles have set a new benchmark for personalised wedding couture.
