Reports indicate that a banner outside Baba’s camp on Sector 16’s Sangam Lower Road displays his Aadhaar card, which lists his birthdate as August 8, 1896. While Swami Sivananda spends his mornings in yoga and meditation in his chamber, his disciples eagerly await his darshan outside during the ongoing Maha Kumbh.
Online reports suggest that Sivananda had submitted an application for the Guinness Book of Records so that it could be authenticated that he is the oldest man in the world. He has a passport, and Indian officials claim that it is valid, and his age is properly documented in the simple register. However, they say that ascertaining his real age is difficult. Sivananda was born in Varanasi, where he spent his childhood in extreme poverty and became a monk at an early age.
Reflecting on his disciplined lifestyle, he shared, “I decided to have a simple and disciplined life. I eat very simple things – only boiled food without fat, spices or rice with vegetables,” he told AFP after two hours of yoga training in Kolkata, where he was visiting.
A video uploaded online shows the monk at 128 years old. When asked about the purpose of his life, he said, “I am living a disease-free life, so I want everyone to live a disease-less life.” He also shared three secrets to living a long life: a well-disciplined life by waking up early, a well-regulated life by eating limited food, and having a controlled tongue.
Despite his advanced age, Sivananda’s appearance suggests he is much younger. He has always managed to be away from publicity and chose to apply for Guinness recognition only after the insistence of friends and followers.
With a fit body and no health complications, Sivananda lives an independent life and travels only by train.
Growing up without electricity, cars, and telephones Sivananda discloses that he does not love the technology world; he instead leads a very simple life.
As reported, Baba stays in Kabir Nagar, Durgakund in Varanasi. After completing his sojourn in the Maha Kumbh Mela, Baba would return to home.
